    Don’t be an idiot.

Yesterday, Sarah had a guy that saw her Obama sticker that started giving her a hard time about the health care system reform that Obama is working on.  This is just a few of the things he stated.

    • He’s trying to kill your grandparents.

Wrong.  He is not.  Don’t be an idiot.

    • He’s a racist. He hates white people.

Again, wrong.  You’re an idiot.  His mom was white.

There was more, but honestly, I was a bit drunk and don’t remember everything, plus I didn’t hear the full conversation, but instead received it via second hand knowledge.  I realize that if you want to take the red pill that those like Rush and Hannity are handing out, that’s your choice. But you’ve got to realize that they’re doing this for the money. Much of the stuff they say, is blown completely out of proportion or just an outright lie. I will state again, they’re only in it for the money. The more outrageous they get, the more attention and therefore money, they’ll receive.  Think about it.

Sure there’s people on the opposite side doing the same thing (Olbermann), but whatever.  When there’s going to be one side, there’s always going to be an opposite.  That’s how it works, left or right.  Ying or Yang.

Unless we become a truly unified country, we’re always going to have problems.

So I woke up yesterday morning in downtown Minneapolis. Almost halfway between the Target Center and the Metrodome. So I got up early, hoping to get in line to be able to see our President Barrack Obama. We got there about 7:15AM, and stood in line until they opened up the doors until 9:30. We were about 3-4 blocks from the start of the line – I’ll post some photos of the line at the end of this post.

The way that we were handled outside, was really well done. Very orderly and getting through security was worked like a well oiled machine. It went downhill very quickly after that. They made us get into a line in the hallway that rings around the outside of the arena, and then we suddenly have a second line going as well. Well, we soon realized that there was no rhyme or reason to the so called lines. That they were just opening one section at a time and as soon as they opened the section, it was a free for all. Well, we ended up almost directly behind the stage. Unfortunately, there were bleachers right in front of us, that had the VIP / selected people to site immediately behind the President. We stayed hopeful that it would be alright and that we’d still be able to see.

So, finally about 12:20, the screen on the scoreboard suddenly goes from a waving flag animation to video of Air Force One and seconds later we see the President stepping off Air Force One, and we knew that the time was near. We quickly realized that we would be lucky to even be able to see the back of his head from where we were, so we started scoping out better seats. We ended up deciding to go to the upper (nose bleed) section, but it was really nice. The stage was slightly angled towards us and we basically had the section to ourselves. So, it worked pretty well.

Whether you agree or disagree with our President, or his policies, it’s still an honor to be able to see a sitting President speak. Luckily, I agree what most of what he’s about, and think that health care is an extremely important issue, not only to me, but to everyone. I’ve been without any sort of health care for about 9 or 10 years now. And it’s scary. As Obama said last night, people like me is one accident or sickness away from being bankrupt. And when you’re working only part time or crap jobs, the options you have for health insurance are not great, and cost a lot of money. At least the one’s I’ve had the option of taking were that way. That I’d be giving away a majority of some of my paychecks to pay for the insurance.

Anyway, whatever. It was an exciting environment, and though it was a great experience.

Afterwards, Sarah and I headed back to La Crosse, to got ready and headed down to 95.7 The Rock’s End of Summer Bash with Katrina. We were there to see “Caroline’s Spine.” I miss the old guys in the band (Jason, Mark and Scott), and so it’s just not the same for me to see these other guys playing the songs that I’ve loved over the years. But they weren’t that bad last night. Maybe it was the alcohol in the ears or something. I don’t know. haha

But then we headed downtown and hung out till bartime. Was a good time. Good friends and good fun. There’s nothing better.

Anyway, I’m sick of typing, so I shall conclude, but here’s the photo’s I promised. These are only of the line(s) that were formed to see Obama at the Target Center in Minneapolis yesterday. Sarah has many photos on the cameras that she brought yesterday, and I shall post the best of those when I get them.

    Keep rockin y’all,

So, here’s the story in the kid’s words:

My name is Jackson. I am in 7th grade and am hoping to win this year’s Science Fair Project. The title of my project is The Power of One.

We got a CD in our mailbox recently. We thought it was just because my Dad manages musicians (Fleetwood Mac, ZZ Top, etc.) Demos don’t usually get heard by my Dad because he’s just too busy. But, when we got this CD from a band called “OCEANSHIP”, since my Dad was out of town, my Mom decided to listen to it. She loved it and showed it to my brother and I. We too thought it was awesome!! I actually go to sleep to it at night and listen to it every day in the car.

My Mom has been talking a lot about how all it takes is one person to make big things happen. This is very hard for me to believe and we’ve been disagreeing. I don’t think at my age, too many people are going to listen to me or think that I have very good taste.

So, we decided to use this as my Science Fair project this year. I want to see if just by me putting this page together and sending it to my friends, I can actually help make this band successful.

All I ask is that you at least check them out. If you like them, buy a song or even the album. They are easy to find on itunes!!

If you have the time, it would help me if you could then post a comment on my wall if you “liked” it and/or if you purchased a song or the album. This will help me be able to track the effect I have had on the OCEANSHIP’s success.

You can also add a link to this page and/or add my playlist to your page. Whenever you can, be sure to mention that you heard about them from me or one of my friends and family. Thank you and wish me luck. I really do wonder if a kid like me could really make a difference. Jackson

Now, I think you should go out, Check out this band!, check out this kid’s science project page, and become a fan! And just support cool shit like this when it happens!

    Hey -

It’s been too long. I know, I keep saying that every time I post a new blog. Oh well, what can you do. When you’re living life, there isn’t always that much to talk about. And the lack thereof makes it a bit difficult to please my minions (you). hahaha

So, what’s happened to me since the last BLOG.

I took in a few David Cook concerts. I saw him back in February, a few days after the tour started. Unfortunately then, he was unable to meet up with an old friend. But fortunately, this last round, I was able to spend some quality time with him and the band. It was very nice. He is still the David I know from years ago, just a bit more attached to his phone. haha

    David and I

    David and I

I also go some videos of his show – which at the moment, I’m too lazy to post onto here.

Otherwise, I’m still continuing to apply for Graphic Design positions. I’ve had just one response since I started my search in mid-May, and that was a rejection letter. Oh well, I shall continue. In the meantime, I do have an interview with Best Buy this coming Monday for a part time position. Cross your fingers for me. I COULD REALLY USE A PAYCHECK RIGHT NOW!

I wish that I could have joined the bachelorette party this weekend in Madison. I have a huge number of friends that are getting together for this. I understand that I’m a guy and that it’s not an option. I just wish that at times like that, when a large group of my friends would congregate like that, that it would be something that I could attend. At least they will all make a return trip in just over a month for the wedding celebration. I’m extremely looking forward to that.

Well, with that, I think I shall close this brief update of the daily boredom that is my life. I hope that you are healthy, wealthy, wise, happy and all of the good wishes that you could wish upon those that you care about.

Keep rockin, and till next time,

OH PS! – I have started to read again. I got bored from too much of TNT’s “Drama in the Daytime” which for the most part is usually the only good thing on television in the late morning and afternoons. So I have re-discovered my public library. I highly recommend that you try to read, even if it’s a book a month or something. I know that it’s difficult to find time in the stressful high pace lives many of us lead lately. But you won’t regret it. I think I’ve read 7 or 8 books in the last 2-3 weeks. Including “Playing for Pizza” by John Grisham. If you think that John Grisham can only write lawyer or courtroom novels, you’re wrong. Playing for Pizza is a spectacular book about a loser of an NFL football player that makes his way over to Italy to play in a club football league over there. I also read his novel “Runaway Jury,” which the movie is loosely based off of. I read “Forrest Gump” and “Gump and Co.” by Winston Groom. You think that the movie is a tearjerker, you should watch, I mean READ the books. Winston can make Forrest’s emotions jump right off of the page and into your heart. Currently I’m working on “Light My Fire.” The autobiography of Ray Manzieric, keyboardist of The Doors. And in the shadows, I have the book Ishmael waiting for me. I don’t know much about it, but it’s highly recommended by a band I know. So, I’m more than willing to give it a shot. I’m also looking forward to Dan Brown’s newest book that comes out in September. I’m a fan of his four other novels, and feel that he’ll probably suck me into this one as well.

Anyway – enough of this. Go find your public library. Pick out a book that you might enjoy (oh, my library now b.t.w. is in order by Author’s last name. I was so confused to not find a number located within the Dewey Decimal System the first time I was there, I had a hard time finding the book I wanted). So, yea. I’ll shut up now.

    Check ya.
